Ratha Yatra Festival in Colombo, Sri Lanka
on the Saturday, 3rd October 2009!


The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Sri Lanka, celebrated the Ratha Yatra Festival for the 11th consecutive time on Saturday the 3rd, October 2009.

The procession started from the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple located at the 188, New Chetty St, Kotahena, Colombo at 7am and traversed along the main roads in Colombo. The program ended when the Chariot reached the Temple at 1pm.

The Children of the Bhaktivedanta Children's Home - Gokulam also participated in the Procession. Few children were dressed as Sri Sri Radha and Krishna in a Horse Cart.

The Ratha Yatra Festival in Colombo was celebrated on the 14th October 2008. H.H. Bhanu Swami attended the festival. The Festival was celebrated with great pomp. See pictures

Chariot Festival for the 9th Time in Sri Lanka - 26/9/2007

International Society for Krishna Consciousness is conducting the 9th Ratha Yatra Festival in Sri Lanka on the 26th September 2007. Lord Jagannath along with Lord Baladev and Subadhra Devi will leave the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple, 188, New Chetty Street, Colombo 13 on the chariot at 8am. The Chariot will proceed along the main roads in Colombo City and their Lordships will shower their blessings upon everybody and every living entity along the path. Devotees can make offerings and accept the blessings of the Lord. The chariot will return to the temple at 1pm on the same day. There will be Prasadam distribution in the temple after the return of the chariot.

New Chetty Street Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple, Jampettah Street (Christy Perera Mawatha), Sangamitha Mawatha, Vanrooyan Street (Hinni Appuhami Mawatha), Ginthupitiya Road, Brass Founder Street, Andival Street, Sri Kathiresan Street, Gas Work Street Junction, Main Street, 3rd Cross Street, Keyzer Street, Front Street, Wimaladharma Circle Clock Tower, Main Street, Sea Street, St. Anthony's Mawatha, Jampettah Street, Christy Perera Mawatha, New Chetty Street - Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple.


Ratha yatra in 2006

The Ratha Yatra in Colombo took place on the 6th October 2006 for the 8th consecutive year! H.H.Bhanu Swami also attended the Festival. The Ratha left the temple at 8am from the Radha Krishna Temple and returned at 3pm. Due to the political situation in Sri Lanka, the festival was a one day festival and was conducted around the main streets of the temple. H.H.Bhanu Swami performed a Yagna in order to commence the festival.

 

Thousands of devotees from all over Colombo participated enthusiasticall and received the blessings from Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subadhra. 

There was chanting, dancing and prasadam distribution. Many school children participated with their school bands. Gokulam children and the Hare Krishna religious school also were in the procession. visit gallery
